The vision of Familyhood is attained when Familyhood’s, intergenerational, systemic approach is functioning at all the school levels and operating for 20 years in collaboration.

STEP 1 – KNOW HOTEP

Hotep!
Hotep means peace in ancient Kemetic (Egyptian) language. Hotep is also my name. My Adventures are my personal pursuit of attaining MAAT (which means Truth, Righteousness, Justice) and along this journey my discovery of Familyhood.

STEP 2 – KNOW THE MOTTOES

STEP 3- START 1stSATURDAYS at school

Familyhood is a community development, 20 year vision that defines schools as the center of the communities development.

Familyhood is driven by two mottoes:
1) Friends of School and 2) Mo Better Food

The two mottoes of Familyhood are:
1) Friends of school – “Every school shall have a functioning Student Government Association, Parent Teacher Association and Alumni Association”. The main goal of The Friends of School is to help create and preserve the school’s Familyhood by nurturing its “inter-generational systemic approach of community development.”

2) Mo’ Better Food – Every school shall have a garden, a farmers’ market and a grocery store. These food -related school -based enterprises employ students as school-based projects, while improving the schools/community food insecurity. For example, the school gardens helps teach students how to grow food, while the farmers market enables students to reach out to local farmers to provide their produce. This act of knowing and supporting local growers helps to improve local communities as a whole.

Once a school develops relationships with local farmers, the school has the foundation to transition from farmers market to the grocery store. For example, after the farmers market, instead of local farmers packing up their inventory and taking it back to the farm, they could leave it to be sold the next day at the school.

Familyhood relies on the increased participation of the Motto 1 organizations (SGA+PTA+AA+FOS) to administer the operations of these school-based food enterprises.

The math formula of a school’s Familyhood is: SGA + PTA + AA + FOS = FAM

To read this formula out loud, SGA stands for the Student Government Association. PTA stands for Parent Teacher Association and AA stands for Alumni Association and FOS stands for Friends of the School and FAM is short for Familyhood.

Familyhood is a systemic approach because its main focus is creating an inter-generational pipeline that links the schools governing organizations, i.e. Student Government Association, Parent Teacher Association, Alumni Association to its surrounding community.

Familyhood links each generation by defining simple steps for each generation. For the youth, K-12 and even college – join your Student Government Association. For the graduate of the school, join or start  an Alumni – Association. For the Parents, Teachers, Association. join the Parent Teacher organization or start one.
