In search of solutions for the African -American community, Hotep promotes #Familyood as a systemic approach to increasing development from within the community utilizing schools as the center for development.
#Familyhood is systematic because #Familyhood is an inter-generational strategy that promotes each generation to play it’s specific role in the overall, collective, strategy.
#Familyhood is driven by two main motto’s. 1) The Friends of School Motto- which states, “every school shall have a garden, a farmers market and grocery store.” 2) The Mo’ Better Food Motto- which states, ” every school shall have a functioning Student Government Association, Parent Teacher Association and Alumni Association.”
In a nutshell, #Famiyhood promotes students attending schools to “play the role” of being active participants in their schools Student Government Association. #Familyhood promotes parents of these students to “play the role” of being active members of the schools Parent Teacher Association and Alumni of the school, to “play the role” of becoming active members in their schools Alumni Association.
All of the above comes together through the monthly volunteer/recruitment day called 1stSaturdays. 1stSaturdays, represents the first Saturday of every month as the official monthly volunteer/ recruitment day at school sites.
#1stSaturdays promotes schools to “Save the Dates” of all the 1st Saturdays of the year as the day, each month, to work on The Mo’Better Food Motto, while allowing space/updates from the schools three main school- based membership organizations.
